Professional Statement
After growing up in the Puget Sound area in Washington state, I earned my B.S. in Biology/Anthropology from Western Washington University with minors in Environmental Education and Honors Interdisciplinary Studies. At WWU, I worked as an admissions advisor and as a teaching assistant for the Human Anatomy and Physiology lab courses, which furthered my interests in education and health professions. While working on my capstone project in undergrad, I conducted a literature review on epigenetic influences of intergenerational trauma. This sparked my already growing interest in genetics and epigenetics. It also expanded my desire to serve underrepresented and vulnerable populations. As I stepped into the field of health care following my graduation, I began working as a technician at NeuroStim TMS Centers. Here, I performed a treatment called transcranial magnetic stimulation for patients suffering from depression and other mental health disorders. My passion for mental health, advocacy, and science education have molded me into who I am today and inspired me to pursue genetic counseling.
Now, as a genetic counseling student at 91¹ú²úÊÓƵ, I am excited to delve deeper into the complexities of genetic information, enhance my skills through hands-on patient interactions, and grow into a well-rounded genetic counselor. This program offers incredible support and the opportunity to gain knowledge and grow through practical experiences, and I look forward to making a meaningful impact.
