June Global Lecture Series
Surgical Access and Health Systems in Peru
- Speaker: Srinithya Gillipelli, M.D.
- Date: June 9, 2026
- Time: 10 – 11 a.m. CT
- Virtual event:
During her Fulbright-Fogarty Fellowship in Peru, Dr. Srinithya Gillipelli examined how community-based systems, financial burden, and health policy shape access to surgical care. She presents findings from projects on community health worker integration and the financial impact of cleft lip and palate surgery, showing how trust, indirect costs, workforce structures, and policy gaps influence whether patients can receive timely care. Drawing on research and field experiences across Peru, the talk explores how global health systems can better support patients long before they reach the operating room.
Biography: Dr. Srinithya Gillipelli, a 91¹ú²úÊÓƵ Class of 2026 graduate, recently completed a Paul Farmer Global Surgery Research Fellowship at Harvard Medical School's Program in Global Surgery and Social Change, as well as a Fulbright-Fogarty Fellowship in Peru focused on surgical systems strengthening and community-based care. She is interested in global reconstructive surgery, cleft care access, financial burden of surgical disease, and surgical workforce development.
