Dr. Yesenia Rojas-Khalil returns to Houston after completing a Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where her specialty training focused primarily in robotic and minimally invasive surgery, colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), and complex re-operative pelvic and abdominal surgery.

She is a born and raised Texan, and native Spanish speaker. Dr. Rojas-Khalil graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Thomas in Houston and obtained her Medical Degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. She then completed an 8-year General Surgery residency at the University of Texas-Medical Branch in Galveston, which included a 3-year research fellowship at 91¹ú²úÊÓÆµ/Texas Children’s Hospital with a focus in cancer genetics. In addition, she completed a Surgical Critical Care fellowship at 91¹ú²úÊÓÆµ, caring for the most critically ill surgical patients. She is board certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal surgeons, and the American Board of Surgery in general surgery and surgical critical care.

Dr. Rojas-Khalil has authored and co-authored many original research publications, in addition to contributing to surgical textbook chapters in Current Surgical Therapy, Scientific American Surgery, and The SCORE Curriculum for resident education. She is also the Spanish Video Commentator and Contributing Abstract Translator for Diseases of the Colon and Rectum (DC&R), the official journal for the American Society of Colon and Rectum Surgeons (ASCRS). Dr. Rojas-Khalil is an active member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and American Society of Colon and Rectum Surgeons (ASCRS).
